UMC Hospitalist Program

Jose David Burgos, MD, FACP, is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and the Medical Director of UMC’s Hospitalist Program. Prior to joining our team, he was an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. Dr. Burgos graduated with honors from the Universidad de Carabobo Medical School in Valencia, Venezuela in 2003 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Texas Tech, where he also served as Chief Resident. Before starting his residency, he went on to complete a Cardiology Research Fellowship at the University of South Florida as well as a Post Doctoral Research Fellowship in Gene and Stem Cell Therapy in ischemic heart disease. Dr. Burgos has received several awards for his research activities and publications and has been the recipient of state and national recognitions such as his Fellowship of the American College of Physicians, Best Doctors of El Paso 2009 and Texas Super Doctors Rising Stars 2013, just to name a few. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Academy of Internal Medicine, and is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association and the Southwest Association of Hispanic-American Physicians.
